1. The Ministry of Education (MOE) awarded scholarships and grants to 28 Singaporeans keen on pursuing an academic career at the 10th Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent Scheme (START) Award Ceremony today.
2. START provides a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships and awards to Singaporeans interested in an academic career at the Autonomous Universities (AUs), strengthening the pool of Singaporean talent in both research and teaching. Awardees study at local or overseas institutions, before embarking on their careers in Singapore. The awards include the Ministry of Education – Autonomous University (MOE-AU) Scholarship, Overseas PhD Scholarship, Overseas Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Early Career Awards, and the Inauguration Grant. The Ceremony was officiated by Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education, at the SMU Administration Building.
3. Since its establishment in 2015, START has supported 237 Singaporeans across more than 30 disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines as well as the Humanities and Social Sciences. This year’s awardees broaden this range of disciplines, by pursuing studies in fields such as Palliative Care, Aquaculture Technologies, Quantitative Psychology and Special Needs Education. Details of the various START schemes and the list of award recipients are in the Annex.
